HiNote
Fork of Heynote with rich Markdown formatting and colored highlights
HiNote is a private fork of Heynote, the open-source scratchpad that keeps one long text buffer divided into blocks, each with its own language for syntax highlighting. The fork started from Heynote 2.9.1, has its own app id and data folder, and a blue two-band icon, so it runs beside the original without touching its notes.
The main change is live-preview formatting in Markdown blocks. Bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, headings, and highlights render styled with their syntax markers hidden; the markers come back when the cursor or selection enters the span. The document stays plain Markdown underneath, so a buffer still reads fine anywhere else. A new ==highlight== syntax marks text in yellow, and a color token such as =={green}text== picks green, blue, pink, purple, or orange instead.
Formatting is reachable from a Format menu with a Highlight Color submenu, a floating toolbar that appears over a selection, the command palette, and shortcuts: Cmd+B, Cmd+I, Cmd+Shift+H for highlight, Cmd+Shift+X for strikethrough, Cmd+E for inline code, Cmd+Opt+1 to 3 for headings, and Cmd+\ to clear formatting. In Markdown lists, Tab nests an item under the one above as a sub-list and Shift+Tab moves it back out, with the numbering kept correct on both levels.
Settings gain a toggle for rich formatting and an accent color (blue by default, with green, purple, and amber) that replaces Heynote’s fixed green throughout the interface. Builds are arm64 only.
