Attendance Tracker keeps a record of who was out, when, and why, for the office staff Doug manages. It started as a Streamlit script that ran in a browser tab and was rebuilt as an Electron desktop app so it opens like any other Mac application. Both versions read and write the same JSON file in the home folder, so nothing had to be migrated.

The main workflow is Record Absence: pick an employee, a date, an absence type, and how much of the day it covers (full, three-quarter, half, or quarter), add a note, and save. The dashboard then shows this month and year to date in the sidebar, a list of recent absences, and days broken down by type and by employee for the selected year. The Calendar page draws a whole year at a glance with each day color-coded by absence type, and clicking into a month lists and edits the entries for that month.

Other things it does:

  • Absence types are editable in Settings, each with its own icon and color. The defaults are Sick, Vacation, Personal, Bereavement, Jury Duty, FMLA, Work From Home, and Other.
  • Employees belong to departments, which can be added and renamed, and reports can be filtered to a single employee.
  • Reports summarize days by type and by employee with a monthly trend, and a printable employee report lays out a year calendar, a summary table, and the absence detail with running page headers.
  • Export to CSV, back up the data file, or clear it from the Data Management section.
